Curriculum and Instruction . . .
• Allow students to spend more time on high levels of questioning and
discussion rather than spending time gaining factual information.
• Begin with big ideas, use of sophisticated note-taking tools, self-directed
learning options, and varied instructional methods.
• Allow students to work as a disciplinarians in the discipline, framing
questions, generating ideas and multiple perspectives, researching to find
hypotheses, analyzing the hypotheses and presenting conclusions.
• Provide sophisticated levels of complexity by using more divergent and
analytical questions, aligning instruction with the highest levels of Bloom’s
Taxonomy, and focusing on broad concepts that relate to multiple content
areas.
• Focus on advanced concepts and complex ideas, which requires that
curriculum be adapted or extended to meet students’ needs.
