Enhancement of Curriculum
Middle School Electives
•
•
•
•
7th electives would be exploratory
in nature and include current
electives by middle school
teachers.
8th electives would be current
electives with Woods and
Computer Applications that
introductory classes to HS
Pathways.
Continue to look at additional
electives for both grades such as
Spanish, Ag, and FACS.
All electives are dependent on
personnel certification.
High School
•
•
•
Until the first year with MS is
completed, enhanced classes at the
high school level will consist of
additional sections of certain classes
BOE approved hiring of additional
high school teacher and the
recommendation at this time is for it
to be a Business teacher.
Classes that are being discussed for
following years include:
Entrepreneurship, Business
Economics, Business Law, Interactive
Media, Game Design, Marketing,
Media & Public Relations

Additional Personnel Needs with the
addition of Middle School students
• Business teacher – BOE approved an
additional teacher position earlier in the year.
• 1 cook
• 1 custodian
• .75 nurse (already have a .25 position)
• 1 autism teacher
• Para support for special needs students
Concerns
• A shared vision for what we want for USD 378 students
• ADA accessible bathrooms, doorways, and ramps
• Time enough to have buildings physically ready for August start date.
– Modular moved in June
– Could the modular be used by high school students while
renovating the high school building for middle school?
• Example would be if special education and autism is housed in
the current FACS room
• What is temporary?
• Will there be a full time nurse on site?
• Safety / security
– More doors now could be unlocked
Concerns, page 2
• Additional storage space
– Athletics
-Art
– PE
-Band
• Practice locations
• Tunnel clean out
• Negotiated agreement
– Plan time
• Additional cost of adding books at both HS & GS libraries.
• Other concerns such as logistics, transitioning, technology, student
handbooks, communication between buildings, and student lockers
can be addressed by administration.
