1794: The angry farmers of Pennsylvania
had become frustrated with taxes on liquor
and stills and stage a revolt. This uprising,
called the Whiskey Rebellion, forced George
Washington to send almost 13,000 troops
to protect the tax collectors. Why are taxes
levied in the first place if most people do
not like them?
