Insects have a three-part body which
consists of a head, thorax, and
abdomen.
This means that the ant is an insect.

Arthropods
Insects are arthropods, meaning they
have a chitinous exoskeleton.
Even with the exoskeleton, the crab is
not classified as an insect. The crab is a
crustacean.

Six Legs
All insects have three pairs of jointed
legs.
The spider has eight legs. This means it
is not an insect. A spider is an arachnid.

Insects have two antennae which they
use for sensing.
