• Beginning January 25th
• 8th grade teachers will begin making recommendations for students
academic courses. The teachers have guidelines which helps them
place students in the appropriate level course.
• Teachers will also meet with each student to select their elective
choices. For this each student will choose:
• Either PE/ Health or JROTC
• 3 electives that are their top choices
• 5 elective alternates
• Students are NOT allowed to register for Culinary Arts or Weight
Training.
• Please encourage your student to pick electives that interest them,
not their friends.
• Also, it is VERY LIKELY that students will get some of their
alternate choices. They need to chose their electives carefully!

Thinking about an honors course?
• Here are some important things to remember:
• Social Studies
• document based question essays as well as timed tests in preparation
for advanced placement U.S. History.
• more in-depth critical thinking and writing, as well as looking at current
events through different historical perspectives sometimes different to
our own cultures.
• Math
• Honors Mathematics courses are intended to be more challenging than
standard courses and provide multiple opportunities for students to take
greater responsibility for their learning. Honors Math courses are
distinguished by a difference in the quality of the work expected rather
than merely by the quantity of the work required. Honors Algebra I is
designed for students who have demonstrated an advanced level of
interest and achievement in mathematics. Students will be expected to
have a strong work ethic and a mastery of skills from the 6th, 7th and 8th
grade.
