minimum).
Seniors need to have a full credit of English &
Math, and should consider taking Science and
Social Studies as well.
Students looking for admission into a competitive
university need to keep an academically rigorous
schedule throughout high school.
A student’s schedule should be driven by their EDP
(career choices, college choices, etc.)

BLOCK SCIENCE INFORMATION – 2 Hour Block
The Physical Science/Biology Block class is a two hour a day freshman science
class. Students complete Physical Science one semester and Biology the other
semester. This course presents the curriculum at an accelerated pace with less
content processing time than the traditional academic path. Algebra 1 is strongly
recommended as a prerequisite for this class. Scheduling priority will be given to
those students with the recommended math level. All students interested must
complete an application process. The science progression for sophomore year
for students who take Block Science is Chemistry.

HONORS LANGUAGE ARTS 9 INFORMATION
Higher level thinking, reading, and writing skills are needed for this class. Students
are selected through an application and assessment process. The middle school will
communicate information and dates for both the application and the assessment, and
any other factors to be considered in the placement process. Students do have
required reading over the summer and may be asked to complete some assignments
based on that reading over the summer as well. For students who need to improve
their writing skills, it is recommended that they take the general LA 9 class and may
enter into the honors and AP curriculum in a different year.
BIG HISTORY
Big History is a year-long course about the significant questions and changes in
the history of the world -- from the Big Bang theory (as taught in 8th grade Earth
Science) to events in modern times. From the subatomic to the universal, from the
local to the global, Big History teaches students to consider their world from many
different perspectives and to look for patterns to make sense of how change
occurred. This course is interdisciplinary and appeals to those who have an
interest in science as well.
TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Toward the end of the 2014-2015 school year, the middle school teachers will be
providing input on course selections for the Class of 2019. Please be advised that
these teachers have the best educational interests in mind when recommending
students for specific courses. The middle school teachers will be notifying parents if
they are suggesting changes in recommendations for students of the Class of 2019.
