What can you do now to prepare
for high school?
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Do your best in class
Have a regular study time
Use your planner/agenda
Study your notes every day
Do your homework and turn it in
Ask questions
Ask for help when needed
How is 9th grade different from 8th
grade?
• Grades impact GPA, College options, and
whether you graduate from High School
• Workload is heavier and pace is faster
• You have more freedoms but more
responsibilities
• Expectations are greater—less hand
holding
• Tests constitute a greater portion of
grades —fewer grades per class
Tips for 9th Graders
• Figure out how you learn best and use
those strategies
• Use your time wisely—don’t procrastinate
• Take your assignments seriously—it is
hard to rebound from low test and project
grades. Follow directions!
• Get involved in extracurricular activities
• 9th grade is the foundation for the rest of
your high school experience
Tips for Parents of 9th graders
• Be patient with your student—the
transition to high school can be hard
• Show interest in your student’s success
• Get involved—Pinnacle is your best friend
• Let your student solve his/her own
problems
• Encourage your student to take the
highest level courses in which they can be
successful
Thank you
