Transcript Warm Up

What would you say if I told
you the truth?
You really CAN learn anything
you want to!
You really CAN learn anything
you want to!
You really CAN BECOME
whatever you want to be!
Warm Up: String Problem
Situation:
You have two flammable strings with really cool
properties.
1. When lit on fire, each string will burn for exactly 1
hour.
2. The rate of burning is NOT constant – different
parts of each string burn at different rates AND each
string will burn at an independent rate from the
other.
Warm Up: String Problem
Task:
You need to use these strings to measure EXACTLY
45 minutes. How do you do it?

Learning Targets
•
I can compare and contrast the traits
of TWO different mindsets.
•
I can explain why having a growth
mindset matters.
When you play a musical instrument or sing or
dance or play a sport, how do you get better at
it?
Think of something you do very well – but not
school work – and explain how you get better at
it. Be as detailed as you possibly can be.
What happens in our brains
when we learn?
1. First, you’ve got to
get the learning in…
2. Once the learning gets
in…
What Happens In Our Brains
When We Learn?
How Do Our Brains Work?
Neurons are the cells that make up your brain – the branches
coming off the cell are called dendrites.
Dendrites and axons create connections with
other neurons.
When we learn something new, two
amazing things happen …
1. We actually grow MORE AND 2. We use these new dendrites to
BIGGER dendrites on our

other neurons.
… AND the harder you WORK to learn
something new, the more…
Dendrites you
will grow
AND
Connections you
will make
3. Finally, we need to make that learning stick!
Here’s what happens when we practice…
