The scientific study of dreaming is called oneirology.
Dreaming mainly occurs during REM sleep. There are
several different theories on why we dream.
Biopsychological approach
Dreaming to remove “junk”
Dreams are the random
firing of neurons in the
brain which may activate
motor systems in the body
The brain works to
“sleep away”
unnecessary
memories and
connections from the
day
Biopsychological theory

Dreaming to solve problems
This idea puts forth the concept
that an individual goes to sleep
with a problem or stress and
dreams help your mind to try to
solve them while unconscious.

Studies on dreaming
A theory by Sigmund Freud
Dreams are wish fulfillments.
Any dream, no matter how
terrifying, can be looked at as
a way of getting something that
you want, either literally or
symbolically.

because of the inability to
move during REM sleep
and draws upon

STUDYING
DREAMING
Nobody can really explain why we dream, even
though there are several theories, nobody can
know for sure. Hopefully, once modern science has
advanced enough, we might be able to figure out
why we actually do dream. Until then we are left
with relying on theories and waiting on scientists to
figure it out.
Sleep Greatly
Benefits The
Body
Sleep helps to restore a tired body.
Often times it can help to relieve
stress. Sleep really helps brain
development in infants and
“exercises” adult brain cells.
