CONCENTRATION CAMPS
IN WORLD WAR II
• Where people were imprisoned under harsh
living conditions
• More than 40,00
• camps were established
to hold most Jews during the war, if they
weren’t killed already
• Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, and Ebensee,
were some of the worst camps

• 6,000,000 Jews were killed
• 11,000,000 people were killed in total
• 2/3 of European Jews were killed

In 1945 concentration camps were liberated one
by one
• Auschowitz was the first camp to be liberated
• Adolf Hitler committed
suicide in April 1945
• Only 9% Jews in the
Holocaust survived it
• 10% of Jews who survived
the liberation died soon after

• In Palestine, Jews fought with Arabs over
land
• Jews wanted to create a Jewish state
• Arabs wanted to create and Arab state
• There were more Arabs than Jews
• Jews controlled more of Palestine than Jews
U.S.A SUPPORT FOR A
JEWISH STATE
• The United States supported the Jewish
state
• They were part of Resolution 181 (mandate
that would divide Palestine into a Jewish
and an Arab state)
BRITISH DISAPPROVAL
TOWARDS A JEWISH STATE
• Britain didn’t support the formation of the
Jewish state
• Britain attempted to limit Jews from
immigrating to Palestine
• Britain eventually decided they couldn’t help
the Jews or the Arabs
UNITED NATIONS HELP
TO FORM ISRAEL
•
The United Nations voted that a Jewish
state in Palestine should be formed
•
That state was proclaimed on May 14th 1948
•
It was called Israel
•
It was the first Jewish state to form in 2,000
years
