Pluto’s discovery
• Pluto was discovered in 1930, by Clyde W. Tombaugh.
• It’s addressed as a ‘dwarf planet’, because it didn’t fit the
scientists’ criteria for what was considered a typical planet.
• It was officially declassified as a planet in ’06.
• Some people believe Pluto got its name from the Greek god
‘Hades’ (Pluto means ‘Hades’ in Greek) whom is the ruler of
the underworld, where it’s dark. Since Pluto is so far away from
the sun, one can only imagine that Pluto got its name from that,
considering it really isn’t near a light source whatsoever.
• “New Horizons” is a spacecraft that as launched in 2006. If all
goes well, it should reach Pluto in the near future.
Empire State Building is completed
• On May 1st, 1931, the Empire State Building was
completed.
• The Empire State building started off as a “race
to the sky”, because the Eiffel tower encouraged
(or taunted) Americans to build something taller,
and also something to feel proud of.
• The building consists of 102 floors, 6,500
windows, and 73 elevators.
• It stands 1,454 feet tall in total.
• The cost of this building wound up to be
$40,948,900.
The Tape Dispenser is
Invented
• The first tape dispenser was invented in 1932, with a built-in cutting
edge.
• John A. Borden was the man who came up with the idea to create
this establishment.
• The reason for this invention was mainly because many people
complained of it being difficult to separate the tape from the roll.
• It took 18 months of experimenting with it before the whole process
was carried out.
• Its main use was for packaging.

• Their death took place near Sailes, Bienville,
Louisiana.
• Bonnie desired to be buried with Clyde once they
died, but they were buried separately according to
their families’ wishes.
Nylon is invented
• In 1935,nylon was invented.
• Wallace Carothers is the founder of
this invention.
• Nylon is long, strong, and very
elastic.
• Nylon first started out as a search for
a synthetic fiber.
• Most items made from nylon can be
machine washed and tumble dried at low
temperatures.

were already under Japanese control.

1938.
