Motivation & Expectation
’05
Main motivation for joining ISERN:
 Difficult (if not impossible) to do empirical work in isolation
 Would like to be part of a community of like-minded researchers
 During graduate school (studying with Vic Basili) got the chance to


interact with some ISERN members
Interesting and beneficial to work with researchers who have different
(but related) interests
Interested in collaborations
Expectations
 Interact with more experienced researchers
 Form collaborations that would not otherwise occur
 Obtain deeper understanding of topics through coordinated and
replicated studies
Contribution & Collaboration
Planned contributions to the community:
 Strengthen exisiting collaborations
 Form new collaborations
 Expertise of other faculty members in my department
 Security
 Software Metrics
 High Performance Computing
 Graphics and Visualization
 Artificial Intelligence
 Bioinformatics
Current collaboriations with ISERN (if any):
 Fraunhofer Center-Maryland and University of Maryland
 Collaborative NSF Science of Design Grant
 High Performance Computing Systems Project
 University of Sao Paulo
 Hosted Jose Maldonado’s PhD student this semester
