Aims
•To combine biological, physical and engineering
technological approaches in the production of a multisensory, task specific adaptable perception system.
•To push forward knowledge of natural systems and to
find the links between what we consider as biological
principles and the science of mathematics which has
been used effectively by humans in the construction
of intelligent machines.

Objectives
•Fusion of Multi-sensory Information
To conceive and implement electronic architectures that can merge
sensory information from different modalities into a unified perceptual
representation of the environment.
•Application of Biological Principles
Architectural design based on the biological principles of sensory
receptor and nervous system function.
•Reconfigurable System
System will be able to reconfigure itself, forming supplementary crossconnections between one sensory receptor level and the higher stages
of processing specific to another sensory modality.

FET
FP6 (beyond robotics)
– More emphasis on closer collaboration
between biology and engineering/computing
– Need to demonstrate/implement systems to
maintain research interest
– Cluster current research activity for future
collaborative research
– Beyond computational intelligence?
