Overproduction/overpopulation,
Inherited variation, Struggle to survive,
Successful reproduction
Successful
reproduction is the key to
natural selection because organisms
must survive long enough to be able
to reproduce and pass on beneficial
traits. Beneficial traits need to be
passed on because they are
adaptations.

Adaptations
help an organism survive
and reproduce because an
adaptation is a trait that is well suited
to a particular environment. If an
animal is well suited to their
environment they will survive longer
and reproduce.
Examples?
Structural Adaptations are the physical features
that help an organism survive.
› An example is camouflage.
Behavioral adaptations are the things organisms
do to survive.
› An example is stalking prey.
These adaptations can be used together. For
example, a leopard stalks it’s prey, and it’s
spotted coat allows the leopard to avoid being
seen because it blends in with the environment.
H-
Habitat Loss
I- Invasive/Introduced or exotic
species competition
L- Loss of Genetic diversity/variation
L- Lack of ability to adapt
Humans impact the extinction of other
species mainly due to habitat
loss/destruction.
Humans contribute most to this because
of the demand for more space and
resources.
› Humans cut down trees for their needs,
humans reroute rivers causing desertification,
humans introduce exotic species which can
become invasive, humans destroy habitats
to build homes, buildings, etc...
Habitat
loss.
It is such a problem because humans
are constantly changing
environments.
De-extinction is bringing back extinct species by
using their DNA to clone.
Good Idea: can give us more information about
them, can possibly help with the development of
new pharmaceuticals, the technology becomes
cheap fast which could have benefits…etc…
Bad Idea: Waste of money (clones don’t always
survive), could introduce new virus/disease that
we can’t fight, could become invasive, no
environment to put the species…etc…
Climate
change, using all of our
resources, nuclear war, pandemic,
meteor strike, complete destruction of
the planet…etc…
Do you think it will happen?
