WSON Signaling Extensions
• Provide extensions to Generalized MultiProtocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling
for control of Wavelength Switched Optical
Networks (WSON).
Changes from 06:
• Put back “Wavelength set metric”. This allows
for a bit more information to be carried in
signaling to assist in the can where
distributed wavelength assignment is used.

Main Requirements and Features
•
•
•
July 2010
Support for bi-directional distributed
wavelength assignment
Support for control of intermediate (per
node) optical processing, e.g.,
regeneration.
Support for enhanced distributed
wavelength assignment methods via
wavelength set metric

Next Steps
• Adopt as a WG document 
• Keep aligned with WSON framework, info and
encoding drafts
• Align with method for intermediate node
configuration signaling as this progresses.
