Convex and Concave Lenses
Solving the Lens Mystery
Lynn Garner & Sharon Holloway
Lenses and Light
• Lenses are curved
pieces of glass that
can be convex or
concave.
• Concave lenses
cause light rays to
spread out (diverge).
• Convex lenses cause
light to come together
(converge) to a focal
point.
Refracted Light –Convex & Concave
Concave Mirrors
• Make-up mirrors are
concave and magnify
• Concave mirrors are
used in reflectors,
spotlights, and
headlights focus light
into beams
Convex Mirrors
• Convex mirrors curve
outwards and are
wide angle mirrors.
• Convex mirrors are
like rear view mirrors
• They provide drivers
and clerks with a wide
field of vision.
