DCal services update
A.Tauro 27.3.2012
Design status
• Services routing: see presentation from S.Maridor
(5.10.2010)
– Optical fibers, trigger and ELMB cables missing
• Cable spreadsheet (D.Gabriele)
– To be updated with DCal extension
• DCal extension. Still missing (mail from Terry 11.5.2011):
– Extend the cooling water supply and return on both the A
and C sides to where the extra SMs sit, and similarly to
extend the cable trays to that region
– For the LV, HV, ethernet and optical services use the
distribution boxes and patch panels already planned for
the DCal.
DCal extension
Services modification
• There are multilayer cooling pipes for TRD and
TOF, fibers for PHOS, HMPID and CPV, TOF
trigger cables and some other minor cabling.
– Cooling pipes: Stephane presented a solution
consisting in lifting by 50cm the existing supports.
– TOF trigger cables: enough slack to displace the
cables without having to redo the connectors
(agreed by Andrea in May 2011).
– Fibers: Charles-Henri has discussed with EL a way
of displacing the box which seems feasible.
Services procurement and installation
Sharing ALICE-DCal
• Procurement of all PP (including protection plates), of cables and
connectors is under DCal responsibility (including those not directly
installed by DCal team).
• Installation, connectorization and continuity test of cables from rack
to LV PP1 (in cavern) and from LV PP1 to LV PP2 (on cradle) as well
as procurement, installation and leak test of pipes from CP to cradle
are ALICE responsibility. Distribution from LV PP2 to individual
modules will be done by DCal.
• DCal extension: ALICE will modify the services in the way.
• Modification of water CP under ALICE responsibility.
• ALICE to install HV, Ethernet, ELMB, Trigger, Optical cables from the
rack up to first level of PP on the cradle.
• Cooling manifold in FE crates: nothing else required to CERN.
Action list
• Optical fibers: Terry to check with DAQ whether there is enough room in
EMCal patch panel for DCal optical links. Fiber's routing will be studied
once this is sorted out.
• Trigger cables: 4 trigger cables to be routed to CTP area. Arturo and
Charles-Henri to find a way to route them to the C-side along the shortest
possible path.
• Cables spreadsheet should be updated by Terry with information about
extension modules.
• Terry to procure all DCal cables/connectors.
• Terry to contact Andre for: procurement ELMB cable (~120m), PP and
turbine in LV rack, and ethernet cables from uplink to rack PP.
• DCal extension: Arturo to contact Stephane for CAD modifications to take
into account of the extension (extend cooling manifold and cabletrays).
