CHRONOLOGICAL AGE
The child’s age at the time of testing.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
•Many children do not know when they were born
•Children think they know their date of birth, but
are incorrect
•Ages are broken down into years, months, and
days, something that children would not normally
know
RAW SCORES
Normally indicates the
number of items correctly
answered on
a given test
PERCENTILE RANKS
(PERCENTILES)
• A score indicating the percentage of people or
scores that occur at or below a given score.
QUARTILES
Divides the scores
into four units: 125, 26-50, 51-75,
and 76—99.
DECILES
Divides the scores
into tenths, or 10
equal units.
STANDARD SCORES
• A score that has been transformed to fit a
normal curve, with a mean and standard
deviation that remain the same across
ages
• Normally have a mean of
100 and a standard
deviation of 15.
z Scores
• Indicates how many standard
deviations a score is above or
below the mean
• Formula:
z = Test Score – Mean Score/Standard Deviation
T Scores
• Another way to express test performance
• Have a mean of 50 with a standard
deviation of 10
• Formula:
T = 50 + 10 z
STANINES
• An abbreviation for standard
nines
• A type of standard score that had
a mean of 5 and a standard
deviation of 2
AGE EQUIVALENT SCORES
A very general score that is
used to compare the
performance of children
at the same age with
one another
GRADE EQUIVALENT SCORES
A very general score that is used
to compare the performance of
children in the same grade with
one another.
