Transcript Shoreline Erosion

Welcome to Science 11/29
 Come up to the cart and carefully select a cup of water.
 Weathering and Erosion
When you think of a beach, what
images pop into your mind?
What makes a beach/shoreline?
 1. weathering- the breakdown of rock
 2. erosion- the movement of weathered rock
 3. deposition- the dropping off of weathered rock
How does the process start?
 What do we need to begin the process of weathering, erosion, and
deposition?
 Wave Energy
 The stronger a wave is, the more W, E, and D can take place.
Putting it all together.
 Waves break down rocks along shorelines.
 The stronger the waves, the more weathering occurs.
 Waves transport weathered rock particles to different locations.
 Waves deposit the rock particles along shorelines, forming beaches.
Coastal Erosion
What are the 4 ways
that the sea erodes the
coast – the different
types of erosion?
Don’t forget,
weathering is also
at work on the
coastline as well
THE LANDFORMS
Headlands and Bays
What are they?
How are they formed?
Some Headlands
And Some Bays
Headlands and Bays Together
How are they formed?
Its all about differential erosion!!!!!!!!
Cliffs, Caves, Arches and Stacks.
The Headland is Attacked!!!
Besides beaches, what other features can
waves create?
 Sea Cliffs
 Most Dramatic Sea Cliffs in the World |
