 An astounding geologic feature that protrudes out of
the rolling prairie surrounding the Black Hills. This
site is considered Sacred to the Lakota and other
tribes that have a connection to the area.

 The monument is a geologic feature created when
magma, which is like lava, cooled suddenly.
 Over time the
soil and rocks
covering it
eroded revealing
this formation of cooled magma.

to preserve its groves of redwood trees.
