LUNG STRUCTURE AND GAS
EXCHANGE
The Respiratory System
What are the
four chambers
of the heart?
Which carry
oxygenated
blood?
Gas
Exchange
occurs in the
alveoli,
across single
cell
membranes
Gases move
due to
differences
in pressure
gradients
Determine the difference between gas
exchange, ventilation, and cell respiration



Gas exchange occurs in the alveoli of the lungs
and happens when oxygen or carbon dioxide
enter or exit the blood.
Ventilation is the physical process of drawing in in
fresh air and expelling it after gas exchange
Cell respiration is a metabolic process by which
sugars are converted to ATP in the presence of
oxygen
In your own words… describe the
process of gas exchange
