Objective of the 2016 MPA Forum
The Forum invites key MPA stakeholders that
committed in 2012 to the Roadmap towards 2020 to
pursue a constructive dialogue to assess the progress
and the road left ahead to conserve 10% of the
Mediterranean with effectively managed MPAs and
other spatial conservation measures by 2020 (Aichi
Target 11), and to tackle the challenges faced by
MPAs, especially those related to climate change,
with an integrated and long term vision.
The 2016 MPA Forum
• Comes in the continuity of the 2012 MPA Forum held in Antalya,
Turkey where the Mediterranean MPA Roadmap was elaborated
• Involves MPA managers, policymakers, socio-economic actors, the
civil society and the scientific community at all levels
• Aims to:
– Evaluate the MPA Roadmap implementation
– Update the Roadmap
– Share knowledge, experiences, success stories,
innovative solutions
• 400 participants are expected in Tangier, Morocco
• This is a UNFCCC COP22 labeled event
