What?
• Make Gela port area as carbon neutral as possible;
•Testing, evaluating and disseminating electromobility in
and around port areas: full electric vehicles (FEV) to
provide the first carbon neutral passengers-goods
transportation in port areas;
• Suggesting future policies for implementation of green
energy actions to further decarbonise port areas.

Province of Caltanissetta
One of the nine provinces of the Sicilian Region.
22 municipalities , 250.000 inhabitants.
Main duties:
• building and maintenance of state secondary schools;
• building and maintenance of provincial streets;
• environmental protection;
• promoting local development: agriculture, handicraft, tourism,
industry, trade and professional training;
• enhancing social and cultural policies.

How?
Agreement Province of Caltanissetta –
Comune di Gela: purchase and installation
of FEV and relative charging points.
5 Full Electric Vehicles:
3 FEV for people transport
2 FEV for people and goods transport
3 charging points
Gela’s staff entitled to drive the FEV will use these ‘0’
emission vehicles in daily activities taking place at
Gela Port and around it >> Lungomare

Why?
Improving air quality= encouraging tourism development;
improving residents’ everyday life;
Double insularity: contributing to both countries’ efforts to
decouple economic growth from nonrenewable energy resources;
In 2009, 3,585,299 tn of goods was shipped between Malta,
Catania & Gela and 91,325 passengers embarked from Valletta to
Sicily: transport completely depending on fossil fuels!
