Seismic Early Warning / Rapid Response
In the framework of ACROSS, GFZ develop monitoring system for
(regional) Seismic Early Warning/Rapid Response. It is planned to
install about 50 stations and two vertical arrays.
To fulfill the ACROSS requirements:
-Develop of a monitoring system that can be generalized and exported to
other “hazards”
-Define (or implement) standards for data acquisition/archive/exchange
ACROSS and GEMIS will benefit from as well as contribute to the European
research infrastructure initiative European Plate Observing System (EPOS).
Kyrgyz and Kazakh NRENs recommend their users buildings located in
seismic areas for seismic equipment installation. Seismic Early Warning/Rapid
Response system at the first stage will be installed for region between Almaty
and Bishkek cities

GNSS Monitoring
GNSS monitoring is carried out by all stations of the network . The data from them
automatically transfer via communication facilities (CAREN, Internet, VSAT, GSM,
other radio systems) to the Data center, is written to the file-server and metainformation is entered to the data base. As result, the time series and velocity vectors
are calculated.

Tracking Kyrgyzstan’s melting glaciers
EU-Central Asian collaboration relies on high speed CAREN and GÉANT
research networks to monitor climate change and
provide early warning of flooding

Case studies
www.icaren.org
Case study on “Tracking Kyrgyzstan’s melting
glaciers” was printed out in Bishkek. Information
was provided by Central Asian Institute for Applied
Geosciences (CAIAG) and their partners German
Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in
Potsdam.
The case study was given to Ministry for Foreign
Affairs and German Embassy in the Kyrgyz
Republic for the Ministerial Meeting which held in
Bishkek on November 27, 2013.
TARENA prepared case study on “Seismology”.

Sensor Data Storage System (SDSS)
The system contents meteorological and
hydrological data of the CAIAG monitoring
stations installed by the project Central Asian
Water(CAWa) and Global Change Observatory
(GCO).
SDSS represents a storing place on basis of
data base PostgreSQL and serves for data
management. Besides the sensor data, SDSS
allows to input and edit a metadata for
properties, stations, sensor devices and units of
measure.
Example of temperature plot
from Aksay station taken from SDSS
SDSS has a comfortable mechanism of
Multilanguage support. Sensor Data Storage
System (SDSS) allows to build time series
plots of the properties (like temperature,
humidity or others), to shift them or to change
their scale.

NREN traffic distribution March 2015
At present, traffic flow analyses shows that main part of research traffic from
CAREN is going to DFN.

Conclusions
CAREN connection to GEANT and TEIN networks provides possibilities
to researchers for Global collaboration on EARTH OBSERVATION IN
CENTRAL ASIA and Disaster Risk management
After strong earthquake in Nepal it’s necessary to urge Global
collaboration on Disaster Risk management and development
monitoring system for regional Seismic Early Warning/Rapid Response
On the next regional CAREN networking conference it’s plan to have
joint CAREN-TEIN session on Disaster Risk management and
development of Seismic Early Warning/Rapid Response development
Sensor Data Storage System (SDSS) contents meteorological and
hydrological data of the CAIAG monitoring stations installed by the
project Central Asian Water(CAWa) and Global Change Observatory
(GCO). It provides opportunities for Glaciers and Climate Change
monitoring.
