Working Sessions
Urbanization & Climate Change for Health & AQ; SDGs 3 & 11
Moderator: Chu Ishida, Japan/JAXA, CEOS, and SDG Initiative Co-lead
Terrestrial Ecosystems, Biodiversity, and Agriculture; SDGs 2 & 15
Moderator: George Zalidis, Greece/i-BEC
Interdependencies and Synergies in the SDGs
Moderator: Eduardo De La Torre, Mexico/INEGI and SDG Initiative Co-lead
What are specific ways that Earth observations contribute to SDGs?
What are detailed approaches countries and organizations are using?
How is user engagement, data access, and capacity building occurring?
What is the significance and value added of Earth observations to the SDGs?
What linkages, synergies, and competition exist among the Goals?

Session A:
Urbanization
and Climate
Change for
Health & Air
Quality,
SDGs 3 & 11
An exchange of ideas about how to contribute
towards achieving SDGs 3, 11, and 13.
Share perspectives on existing efforts and discuss
ongoing actions, such as UNEP Atmospheric Brown
Cloud project, and use of networks, such as
AERONET and SKYNET.
Share relevant national-level examples and pilot
projects, including their status, gaps and
challenges, and possible pathways and
opportunities for partnership engagement in
moving forward.

Purpose: B
Session B:
Terrestrial
Ecosystems,
Biodiversity,
and
Agriculture;
SDGs 2 & 15
Discuss activities (current and upcoming) and the
value and contributions of Earth obs to:
• Improved food security
• Monitoring of forest cover.
Identify particular Targets and Indicators within
SDGs 2 and 15
Share relevant national-level examples and pilot
projects, including their status, gaps and
challenges, and possible pathways and
opportunities for partnership engagement in
moving forward.
EARTH OBSERVATIONS IN SERVICE OF GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: C
Session C:
Interdependencies
and
Synergies
in the SDGs
Examine interdependencies among the SDG Goals,
Targets and Indicators.
Discuss some of the leading SDG interactions in
specific national, regional, and global contexts.
Discuss thematic case studies (e.g., health,
ecosystems) that enable SDG reinforcements and
minimize negative interactions.
Identify specific recommendations and near-term
actions for the GEO SDG Initiative team to pursue;
for GEO Work Programme element teams; and for
the GEO Community.
EARTH OBSERVATIONS IN SERVICE OF GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT
What Would You Do, How Would You Invest …
If GEO identified €1 Million for Earth Observations on
Sustainable Development Goals:
 What activities should GEO pursue?
 Where should it spend the ´first´ Euro?
 What is the highest priority item where we
would see a return on investment?
