Cobourg
Official Plan
Review
Submission by Sustainable Cobourg
Official Plan Review Committee
October 29, 2009
For the health of the
planet and
ourselves, we need
to plan Cobourg
differently
We need to plan
Cobourg differently to:
-avoid runaway
climate change
-become healthier
-save our farmland
Climate
Change
Climate change
changes everything,
including how we
should plan
Cobourg
What we need to do:
-Reduce
CO2 levels from 390
(current) to 350 parts per million
(ppm).
-Reduce Canadian GHG emissions
by >50% from 2006 levels by 2020.
Therefore, the next 10 years to
2020 are crucial.
The most startling evidence yet…
is the MELTING OF THE ARCTIC.

DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS
How can
Cobourg’s Plan
be one of the
solutions?
Cobourg must
largely decarbonize by 2050.
Half of this should
occur by 2020.
This means largely
eliminating our use of fossil
fuels over the coming
decades.
And this means planning
for the post-automobile
era.
This needs to
change.

that drives a car to work out in a gym.”

• Adding additional
development within the built
boundary of Cobourg is
required to make efficient use
of existing infrastructure.
• This will both strengthen
Cobourg’s economy,
improve its sustainability and
prevent further urban sprawl.

In the absence of this
planning amendment, no
public infrastructure
planning or investments
should be made to

Plan.
