Transcript Beginning Band Power Point
If awesome had a name…
• Band is simply group of students that work together to
become
musicians
• Each student will select an instrument and will begin
learning how to play at the very beginning on next
Fall
• Throughout the year we will discover the music
together and perform a concert at the end of Spring.
• Each student will be taught how to interpret music and
how to play musically
• Just listening to music is enjoyable, but playing it is even better!
• Being a part of a music ensemble has been proven to increase
academic performance as well as social development
• Music study enhances teamwork skills and discipline. In order for
an band to sound good, all players must work together
harmoniously towards a single goal.
• And most importantly, you should join band because…
• 17.3% higher graduation rate
• 8.4% higher attendance rate
• 63pts higher SAT Verbal score
• 44pts higher SAT Math score
• Woodwinds
• Flute
• Clarinet
• Saxophone
• Brass
• Trumpet
• Trombone
• French Horn
• Percussion
• The Flute is a delicate instrument that is said to be
the closest instrument to the human voice
• The Flute is extremely portable and can be transported easily
from school to home
• The Flutes soft and gentle sound blends beautifully within the
band
• Clarinet is an excellent beginning instrument for all ages
• The size and weight of the instrument make the clarinet wellsuited for children with small hands
• The warm and somber tone of the clarinet is perfect for playing
beautiful melodies
• The Clarinet has a tremendous musical range of tone and
dynamics
• The clarinet is a special instrument because it can be featured in
a variety of settings. It can play Dixieland or marches, jazz or
classical.
• The saxophone is perhaps the most widely heard
solo instrument of the wind family in popular and
jazz music.
• It has a singing quality with a rich middle register, commanding
low register, and an exciting and colorful extended range.
• If you want the complexity of a classical instrument with the
expressiveness of a non-classical instrument, saxophone may be
a good fit for you
• High, bright, light and clear, the trumpet has
a wonderful sound and is a great instrument
for any student entering the world of music.
• It is one of the highest in pitch of all the brass
instruments and is often featured on the melody.
• Trumpets are known for being the center of many
important fanfares and powerful pieces so this
instrument is not for the timid.
• The trombone is considered one of the most widely used
instruments. We can hear trombones in bands, symphony
orchestras, jazz groups, brass quintets and as solo instruments.
• The slide is the major thing that sets the trombone apart from all
other wind instruments. Unlike the flute or the oboes, which have
keys, or the French horn or trumpet, which have valves,
trombones are a chromatic instrument that uses a slide to
produce pitch
• The French Horn possesses a beautiful, warm, and
mellow tone that is specifically identifiable
• Some of the most beautiful symphony music is written for French
horn.
• The French horn has a beautiful array of colors and a brilliant,
broad range
• Even though the French horn is one of the hardest instruments to
play, it plays the most unique and important sounds in bands and
orchestras.
• The percussion is the heartbeat of the band
• There are literally thousands of instruments that are considered
members of the percussion family. They are either pitched or
non-pitched instruments.
• On percussion, you will begin by learning how to play the
keyboard instruments. A background in piano is preferred
• Some of the basic percussion instruments include Timpani,
Marimba, and Snare Drum
