Aim of the Climate Challenge Fund
The Climate Challenge Fund aims to:
• help communities to significantly reduce their carbon
emissions.
• empower Scottish communities by building the capacity
for sustained future reductions
• promote greater awareness of the action Scottish
communities can take to reduce their emissions
Climate Challenge Fund supporting alliance
The Climate Challenge Fund supporting alliance aims to:
• provide guidance and support to communities to put their
plans into action;
• develop a shared sense of purpose amongst national
stakeholder bodies to support the purpose and delivery of the
Climate Challenge Fund;
• provide a network where communities and stakeholders can
exchange good practice and learning.
• support Government work on the evaluation of actions by
CCF funded communities in tackling climate change
What the fund is for
The Climate Challenge Fund will support:
• Projects to reduce carbon emissions;
• Community organisations to develop carbon emissions
reduction action plans;
• The costs of feasibility studies or community engagement
for carbon reducing projects and action plan;
• Community capacity building (awareness raising, training
and skills development)
• Communities to establish a partnership, setting up a
company or project management costs
Who can apply
Applicants must be Scottish based and by the time a grant is
approved they must be a legally constituted not-for-profit community
group.

Application process
Stage 1 – complete and return an EoI form, available from
www.infoscotland.com/climatechallengefund or
[email protected]
Stage 2 – a discussion with a member of the CCF team
Stage 3 – complete full grant application form
Stage 4 – CCF team review application in preparation of the
CCF grant panel meeting
Stage 5 – CCF grant panel meeting approves project funding
Stage 6 – funds awarded and implementation/monitoring
phase begins
Exemplar projects
Barra & Vatersay Community Ltd
This project will use the funding to develop an action plan to deliver
environmental benefits to the Barra and Vatersay residents. Work will include
locally grown food and the encouragement of residents to buy local produce.
Going Carbon Neutral Stirling
This project raises awareness and offers advice and information to community
groups on the key areas of change that they might consider if they want to
make a difference in tackling climate change. This project is also supported
by Big Lottery, Stirling Council and WWF.
Perth & Kinross Community carbon reduction project
This project will identify barriers to individuals becoming involved in taking up
energy efficiency measures and develop and develop effective solutions to
overcoming them. As a priority, it will provide support for residents who may
be in fuel poverty.

•19 applications presented to the Grants panel on the 13th August
2008 (14 approved)
• 33 applications presented to the Grants panel on the 20th October
2008 (19 approved)
• Next panel meetings 17th December 2008 and 24th March 2009
