How to See Your
Counselor
• To make an appointment, students should come to
Guidance before & after school, or during lunch.
• Drop in visits are available during both lunches,
before and after school -no pass necessary!
• An “on-call” response counselor is available
everyday for walk-in students and parents.
•All 2700 students (9-12 grade) will be seen by
the counselors in the classroom setting
(English and Social Studies classes) first
semester and one-on-one during registration 2nd
semester.
•Every student will make a four year plan for
graduation and college.
DROPPING CLASSES
• Once the student attends class, moving from an Honors
level class to a Regular level class is only granted at the end
of the quarter and is based on severity of academic struggle
and availability.
• Students can drop a class until the Friday of the 10th week
• After the 10th week all dropped classes receive an “F” on the
transcript

Preparing for College
•
•
•
•
•
Take college prep courses and do well in them.
Get involved. Find activities or sports you like in school.
Make a list of colleges you might consider attending.
Think about what kind of career you may want in the future.
Talk to people working in interesting careers and find out what they
like and don’t like about their work.
• Talk to your parents/guardians about paying for college and if there is
a plan. If you do not have a plan, begin planning NOW!
• Start looking for summer programs offered by colleges and universities
that would prepare you for life in college or give you a head start.
• Visit ASU, U of A, and NAU. Take a campus tour and talk to
admissions representatives.
Teacher Recommendations
for Success
• “Rewrite the notes before even working on the
homework, to create more understanding of the
material”
• “Excuses from home describing why a student did
not finish their homework will not be accepted
anymore.”
• “It is very important for parents and students to go
to department web-sites to fully understand
department and class policies regarding
assignments.”
More Tips
• “One of the best things for students to have is a
three-ring notebook for EACH class to keep
material in.”
• “It is important for students to remember to bring
all of their materials to class everyday”
• “Do your homework or you will fail my class”
• “The more involved the students are, the more
ownership they will have for the school”
• “Every student should be bringing a backpack full
of books, paper, binders, pencil etc. home every
night.”
Even More Great Tips
• “Take advantage of teacher tutoring or
Totem/!”
• “If kids are not bringing work home to do
they are not getting it done.”
• “If you want to hear from teachers about
grades make the effort to contact them
first.”
• “Use your student planner!”
• Get involved!
• Do your homework!
• Go to class!
A student may not receive credit after the 16th
absence.
