GLOBAL WARMING IN THE
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The Dominican Republic is a tropical island which is
still being developed. The economic status in the
country is extremely low, most of the population are
facing challenges such as, lack of fresh water, soil
erosion, and pollution. Like D.R the neighboring
country Haiti is also going through the same
environmental issues.

poverty
• Soil erosion
• Pollution
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
• The economic status of the Dominican republic is
poor.
• Lack of water and rain. Not as much rain and fresh
water.
• DR runs on hydroelectricity.
• Their electricity system is based off internment.
PREVENTION TO GLOBAL WARMING:
• German Federal Ministry for the environmental
(Financial) coalition for rain forest Nations
PLAN COMPATIBLE ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT CLIMATE CHANGE
(DECCC PLAN) OF THE DOMINICAN
REPUBLIC
1). Reduce greenhouse gases in the cement industry
and in the sector of solid waste.
2). Replace raw materials of fossil fuels + alternative
materials

• Hurricane Matthew was a
result from global warming
affecting both Haiti and the
Dominican Republic.
• In Haiti thousands of people
had to leave their homes,
hitting places where it never

EFFECTS OF FOSSIL FUEL ON THE
ENVIRONMENT
• Crop losses resulted severe droughts making the country more
vulnerable.
• According to national food security coordination from july to
December 2015 agriculture dropped by 50%.
• In the month of May, 5 people died because of the rain flooding their
villages.
• Due to heavy rains, rivers were overflowing, urban areas are flooding
including: Santo Domingo.
• Over 2500 people evacuated the DR.
• The storms measured out to be around 11.8 inches an hour.
