Aim/Goals: Why did Henry VIII form the
Church of England?

1. Henry VIII was the King of England, which was a Roman Catholic country.
2. Married to Catherine of Aragon
a. wanted a male heir (somebody who receives or who has by law the right to
receive property, position, or title when another person dies.)
b. He did not get a male heir with Catherine
3. Wanted to get a divorce, but the Pope and Church would not allow him too.
Annulment: end the marriage, different from a divorce.
4. Act of Supremacy
a. Named himself the head of the Church, removing the Pope from power.
b. Created the Anglican Church
5. Married six times
a. Had a total of 11 children but only 3 lived (Mary I, Elizabeth I, and Edward)
b. The son died at a very young age and he never took the throne.
The Tudors



The Tudors were a royal
family who ruled England
from 1485 until 1603.
The first Tudor king was
called Henry VII.
He fought another king,
Richard III, at the
Battle of Bosworth in
1485. Richard was killed,
Henry became king, and a
new period of history
began.

Henry VIII was king of
England from 1509 until
1547.
He was born in 1491, and
was only 17 years and 10
months old when he
became king.

They had no children.

She is supposed to have
