Blues is a vocal and instrumental form
of music based on the use of the blue
notes and a repetitive pattern that
most often follows a twelve-bar
structure.

– Oppression
– Cruelty of authorities
– Harsh realities of life

Evolved from an unaccompanied vocal
music and oral tradition from African

The Blues were born in the North
Mississippi Delta following the Civil
War.
Influenced by African roots, field
hollers, ballads, church music and
rhythmic dance tunes called jump-ups
and Celtic/Irish folk lyrics and tunes.
