Objects of the Preposition
Every preposition has an object. Add
the following to your notes.
To find the object, ask What?
Above what?
The plane soared above the clouds.
The mouse ran under the dresser to get away.
Beneath the starlit sky, the lake sparkled.
If you think a word is a preposition, but it
doesn’t have an object, then it’s not a
preposition!
Which sentence contains a prepositional
phrase?
Jack and Jill
went up the
hill.
Jack fell
down and
broke his
crown!
A prepositional phrase will
NEVER contain a verb or the
subject!
Write the numbers of the correct prepositional
