Overview
How
can I manage that…
 in
my classroom.
 in my school.
Making
it work.
How can I manage that…
In my classroom?
Classroom Management
Storage Goals
A way to charge laptops overnight
 Neatness / Organization

STACKS on a counter or cart
 CRATES – hold 6 laptops vertically
 Computer GARAGES

(home-made wooden boxes)
Classroom Management
More about Garages
Vertical storage
 Individual slots
 Stores 6 laptops

(1 power strip per garage)

If space is limited
they can be stacked
(fasten together on sides)
Classroom Management
On or Off?

Are we using computers today?


Computer use should be known ASAP so they
can get it “fired up” right away if necessary
On agenda and/or at the door, post a sign:

Classroom Management
Rules / Procedures
“Give Me 5” during
listen time
 Circulate often to
prevent problems!
 No warnings
 Use laptops often



More incentive to be
good and not lose it
Practice makes perfect
Classroom Management
Classroom Discipline
Many laptop problems do not have to be
dealt with by revoking laptop privileges.
 Think about the parallels:




Chat rooms = passing notes
Plagiarism = copying
Deal with problems in appropriate ways.



Messy “parking” job  clean my room
Wasting class time  detention
Listening to c.d.  take away the c.d.
Classroom Management
Classroom Discipline
Minor offense: loss of laptop for
remainder of class period
 Repeated offenses: loss of laptop for 24
hours or longer (in that class) until “yellow
slip” is signed by other teachers & parent.
 Major offenses:

Discipline referral – follow handbook policy
 If laptop is taken away: “red slip”

How can I manage that…
In my school?
School-Wide Procedures
