• In 1932, Drs. Crohn, Oppenheimer and
Ginzburg at Mount Sinai Medical Center
described a subacute inflammatory process
affecting the distal ileum
– “terminal ileitis”
– “granulomatous ileitis”
• In 1952, Dr. Wells reported colonic
involvement

and pattern
