 What can temperature tell ?


A fever is one of the body's immune responses that attempts to neutralize a bacterial or viral infection. A fever can
be caused by many different conditions ranging from benign to potentially serious.
Fever is a common symptom of many medical conditions:
 Infectious
diseases,e.g., influenza, HIV, malaria, infectious mononucleosis, or gastroenteritis
 Various skin inflammations,e.g., boils, or abscess
 Immunological diseases,e.g., lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis, inflammatory bowel
diseases, Kawasaki disease

destruction, which can occur in hemolysis, surgery, infarction, crush syndrome,

small change in temperature.

The Thermometer Story

This was the preffered thermometer for a long period of time as it gave a fairly accurate
reading. However it came with a family of problems too such as breakage, firing up in
high heat conditions, slow reset and inefficient readability. Around the 1990’s, in many
regions of the world, it was decided that it was too risky to handle. The vigorous shaking
required to reset the thermometer often resulted in breakage and spilling of the
poisonous mercury content.
Attempted to replace glass mercury thermometers but came with an array of it s own
problems such as ; high price, extra costs for batteries and maintenance and a lack of
accuracy in many instances particularly if battery is low.
of thermometers also came into use in recent yrs. such as Ear and
Forehead Thermometers but they haven t had a lasting impact due to prevailing issues in
regard to accuracy , or due to inconvenient methods of use and price.

How to Use
 The last black Dot indicates the patients
temperature.

Place in heat pocket under tongue or in axilla.
One minute under tongue and three minutes in axilla.

Peel off and adhere to axilla.
First reading after 2-3 minutes. Continuous readings thereafter.

 Each Dot/Cavity is filled with a chemical that is set to react at a specific
temperature.

 The chemicals (only 2 milligrams of liquid crystal
chemicals) are fully encapsulated by a clear polymeric film
which prevents contact. While this provides as an extra
safety precaution, the chemical has passed rigorous
tests to prove it’s safety as per U.S.A safety
requirements.
