News flash: there are germs in the
workplace!
Are you holding a handful of germs?
Desktops, phones and keyboards harbor
more germs than the average toilet seat.

Restrooms are disinfected regularly.
Desktops aren’t.

Hand Hygiene. Hands down,
the best way to help you stay well.
A majority of germs are transmitted by hands.
Good hand hygiene is a simple
and effective measure for
preventing the spread of germs.
•
Wash your hands with soap and water.
•
Use Instant Hand Sanitizer, like
PURELL®, when soap and water are not
readily available.
•
Make it a habit at work and at home with
your families.
Federal and public health authorities agree:
Good hand hygiene helps prevent illness.
Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing.
Use soap and water or an alcohol-based hand
cleaner.
- pandemicflu.gov
How can I clean my hands when water is not
available?
You can use disposable wipes or a hand gel
sanitizer. You use the gel without water. The alcohol
in the gel kills the germs on your hands.
- FDA
As with other infectious illnesses, one of the most important and appropriate preventive
practices is careful and frequent hand hygiene. Cleaning your hands often using either
soap and water or waterless alcohol-based hand sanitizers removes potentially infectious
materials from your skin and helps prevent disease transmission.
- OSHA
Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick
and spreading germs to others. It is best to wash with soap and clean running water for 20
seconds. However, if soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based product to
clean your hands. Alcohol-based hand rubs significantly reduce the number of germs on
skin and are fast acting.
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
An effective hand hygiene program
is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
