NOTE:
 CAUTION: These talks are for your
information and do not serve to create a
doctor-patient relationship, if you are ill or on
medication and wish to significantly change
your lifestyle you should do so under the
direction of your regular physician.
Disease Trends

The #1 disease killers have dramatically
changed over the past 100 years
– Two proposed reasons:
1. Lifestyle practice changes
2. Medical Knowledge
A Changed Society
THEN  NOW
Industrialization and Urbanization
– Need to live faster, quicker lives
– Elevated stress
Diet and Lifestyle Changes
“Get it Quick and Easy!”
 Chains of fast food restaurants
– Fatter, saltier, more processed foods
 Minimal Exercise Society
– Parking lots as close to grocery
stores as possible
How Society has Coped with a
Changed Society
 Busy life relief mechanism has created a
society of idleness.
 Television
 Increased junk food
END RESULT: An epidemic of childhood
obesity, and other chronic diseases
Disease Statistics
Advances in medical knowledge
– Disease prevention
 Hygiene
 Sanitation
 Great improvements have been made
–Increased average life expectancy
from age 40 to 78
–Decreases in mortality and morbidity

Public’s Perception of Health
20th Century led to “Quick Fix” health mentality.
 Infectious Disease apparent success
 Antibiotics and medical advances
 Led to the notion, “What I do doesn’t matter,
the doctor can fix it.”
 Recently: Improved concern over lifestyle
– Results:
 Some improved health practices
 “Fad,” quick fix diets
Infectious Disease:
Despite Medical Advances
 Infectious diseases are emerging and
reemerging faster than the scientific
community can keep up
– Emerging:
 West Nile Virus, SARS, Bird Flu, Mad Cow, HIV,
Ebola…etc
– Reemerging:
 Increases in Tuberculosis, Pertussis, pneumonia,
Streptococcus (Flesh eating bacteria)…
Despite Scientific Advances Chronic
Diseases are the
# 1 Killers
Are at record highs and
rising
 Cardiovascular
Disease
 Cancer
 High Blood Pressure
 Diabetes
 Obesity
Proper Motivation the KEY to Health
Reform
 Recently the scientific community has begun
to change their approach to chronic disease
and realize the importance of:
– Lifestyle and Physical health
– Sound Spirituality
 Nevertheless few individuals are willing to
make the necessary changes
Proper Motivation the KEY to
Health Reform
 Lack of motivation to improve health is the
real battle facing public health today:
– According to Dr. Doug Cumpos-Outcalt, former
Medical Director for Maricopa County
 “Most people do not succeed at lifestyle modifier
reduction of disease”
 “Education alone is not a good enough motivation
for health reform”, there must be something more.
Proper Motivation and Inevitable
Death
 Numerous people say, “Seize the day, for
tomorrow I may die.”
 If life ends in this life, then this mentality is
correct
 The need for improved healthy living will be
minimized.
What is the End Result of mere
Healthful Living?
 Increased longevity, and
decreased morbidity
 However, no matter what,
total life expectancy is
only about 80 years; then
what?
Answer:
Inevitable DEATH
PROPER
Health Reform Motivation
Requires a knowledge of the:
1. True understanding of the WORST
disease.
2. How it came about.
3. How to prevent, treat and defeat it once
and for all.
If all disease
ultimately ends in
death, then what is
the worst disease?
The Worst Disease
The Ultimate End Result of Disease:
 All Physical Diseases  Death
 Cause of all Death = Sin
 “For the wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23
Then SIN IS THE WORST DISEASE

Physical Disease  SIN Death
If Sin = worst disease, then what is sin?
“Sin is the transgression of the law”
(1 John 3:4)
God’s Blueprint for Prevention of
the Worst Disease
“Laws of Happiness”
Laws of Happiness: Moral Laws
Tell us HOW to avoid the
Worst Disease, SIN
a). Shows us how we should
worship God
b). Shows us how to serve our
fellow man
Laws of Happiness: Health Laws
 Help us avoid the “worst” disease
a). Point to the moral law
b). Provide the “way” to avoid physical
disease
How did disease come about?
 Originated with Satan
in heaven.
“…thou wast perfect
in thy ways from the
day that thou wast
created, till iniquity
was found in thee.”
Ezekiel 28:15
Disease and Death
Entered Humanity
…for in the day that thou eat
thereof, thou shalt surely
die.” Genesis 2:17
First sin = Sin of appetite
– Overcoming the sin of
appetite has much to do
with our restoration to
Eden
Who has power over disease of sin?
Jesus
Heals physical,
mental and
spiritual disease
– See Matthew 10:1
Physical Healing Causes Us to
Realize Our Need of Spiritual
Healing!
“But that ye may know that
the son of man hath power
to forgive sins…arise take
up thy bed and walk.”
Matthew 9:6
Spiritual conversion symbolized
in physical healing. Matthew
13:15
When is the End of Disease and SIN?
The destruction of sin and
its originator. Ezekiel 28:16-18
“And God shall wipe
away all tears from their
eyes; and there shall be
no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any
more pain: for the
former things are passed
away.” Revelation 21:4.
Must we wait until then to have
health?
Can we have health now?
 Yes, by Keeping God’s laws
–Moral laws (10 Commandments)
–Physical laws
 “WA N T R E S T”
–God’s Eight Doctors
Provide Health and Happiness Now
The Moral Law and God’s Health
Promise
The moral law = the 10
Commandments
 “If you, “…wilt give ear
to his commandments
and keep all His
statutes, I will put
none of these
diseases upon
thee…for I am the
Lord that healeth
you.” Exodus 15:26

Why is Health Important to a
Christian?
1. Happiness and usefulness in this life
and the life to come
2. Glorifying God in our bodies
3. Spiritual Discernment (hearing the
holy spirit)
#1
Health: for
Happiness and Usefulness

Christ wants us to be
happy and healthy
–

“Beloved I wish above all
things that thou mayest
prosper and be in health,
even as thy soul
prospereth.” 3 John 2
Health and Happiness
are linked with our
usefulness
#2
Health: To the Glory of God
 “What, know ye not that your body is the
temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own? For ye are bought with a price:
therefore glorify God in your body, and in
your spirit which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians
6:19-20
Glory to God
 Christ “owns” our body
– The body is the temple of God.
 1Corinthians 3:17
 “Glorifying God” in our bodies:
– Accomplished by following God’s Eight Doctors
– When our bodies are kept well, this brings glory
to God, the source of health.
– Others notice improved physical, mental and
spiritual health and want what we have.
#3
Health: Spiritual Discernment
 Necessary to overcome sin, the “worst disease”
– Provided by the Holy Spirit
– Essential since the adversary knows his time is
short
 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Following God’s eight doctors enhances
discernment
How do we hear the Holy Spirit?
Answer: The Central Nervous System
The holy spirit communicates to us through our
brain. Anything that affects the brain deadens
the ability to discern the Holy Spirit.
Mind Altering Affects:
 Mind altering practices or
substances:
–Hinders the ability to hear the Holy
Spirit
–Hinders the ability to utilize the will
 The will (choice) is our only role in salvation
 “Choose you this day whom ye will serve”
Joshua 24:15
 This “will” power even comes from God.
Philippians 2:13.
Where does the WILL take place?
 Frontal Lobe
– Just behind the forehead
– Largest lobe of the brain
– Source of judgment (insight), reasoning,
intellect and the will.
Price, BH, et.al. The compartmental learning disabilities of early frontal
lobe damage. Brain, 1990.
Frontal Lobe Research
Study: 10 normal subjects were asked questions of
judgment based on moral issues such as, “ We break the
law when necessary, true or false?”
– Subjects were then evaluated with a MRI
– Results demonstrated increased activity in the frontal
lobes
– Indicating the frontal lobe is the “seat of morality”
– Other studies indicate the frontal lobe is also
responsible for spirituality
Moll, J., Frontopolar and anterior temporal cortex activation in a moral judgment task:
preliminary functional MRI results in normal subjects. Arq Neuropsiquiatr. 2001
Sep;59(3-B):657-64.
Phineas Gage:
A Damaged Frontal Lobe Case Study
Phineas Gage was a hard working, church going, loyal
family man until his fateful injury Sept. 13,1848.
 An explosion caused a metal rod to penetrate below his
upper jaw and exit out his forehead
 He lived but was never the same again
– Started carousing local saloons
– Missed work and eventually was fired
– Lost all interest in spirituality
– Left his family and ran off with the circus
– Died from effects of alcoholism
– The body was exhumed and his skull was placed on
display
 Recent Computer Tomography Scans (CT) indicate injury
only to his frontal lobe
Ratiu P, et.al. The tale of Phineas Gage. Journal of Neurotrauma. 2004 May;21(5):637-43.
Psychiatric Behavior of a Damaged
Frontal Lobe
In Children and Youth:
Increased temper
outbursts, assaultive
behavior, early sexual
promiscuity, increased
drug use, and suicide
in frontal lobe injuries.
Character and the Frontal Lobe
 Frontal lobe determines character
– Self-control, trustworthiness, reliability, serious
reading, abstract reasoning, interpersonal
relationships
Lifestyle and Frontal Lobe
Functioning
Following God’s Eight Doctors has
been shown to improve frontal lobe
functioning.

Biblically, is the forehead or frontal
lobe the “seat of character”?
 High Priest’s name was
written on his forehead
(frontal lobe)
 Name = “Holiness to the
Lord.” Exodus 28:36-38
 Jesus is our High Priest
(Hebrews 4:15, 5:10)
Jesus’
Royal Priesthood
 God’s people are His royal
priesthood, set aside
(sanctified) for Him.
1 Peter 2:9
“And they shall see His face and His name
shall be in their foreheads.” Revelation 22:4
What is God’s name?
 God’s Name = His Character;
 “And the Lord descended in the cloud, and
stood with him there, and proclaimed the
name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by
before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The
Lord God, merciful and gracious,
longsuffering and abundant in goodness
and truth.” Exodus 34:6,7
His Name = His Law = His Character
His Name
1. “Merciful God”
 “And showing mercy unto thousands of
them that love me and keep my
commandments.” (Merciful) Ex. 20:6
2. “Truthful God = His name is truth”
 “Thou shalt not bear false witness against
thy neighbor” = (NOT LIE) Ex. 20:16
 His character attributes refer us to His 10
Commandments (Law)
 His “Law is righteous” Psalms 199:172
RIGHTEOUS
LAW
RIGHTEOUS
CHARACTER
RIGHTEOUS
NAME
 God’s people (Rev. 14:1) wear His name IN their
(foreheads) frontal lobes
 Since His name is His Righteous character and
law, then they wear the Law of God IN their
foreheads (frontal lobes). Revelation 7:2-4, Deuteronomy 6:1,8
Take Home Points:
 Central Nervous System = where and how
the Holy Spirit communicates with us
 Frontal lobe = “seat of judgment” and the
“WILL”
 God’s final people have His Law of Love
written IN their frontal lobes (foreheads)
– Overcoming sin through His power
– The mark that they have chosen Jesus
Protection of the Nervous System: Essential to
Writing His Character IN our Frontal Lobes!
1.
All disease affects the
Central Nervous System:
 High Blood Pressure
decreases cognition
 Utilize “Physiology, the
Key to Be Disease Free”
2. Don’t take or do anything
that interferes with the central
nervous system
– Follow ALL OF God’s
Eight Doctors for
improved physical,
mental and spiritual
health
3. Have daily Bible study and
prayer
