News & Notes
In language arts this week the students learned
about functional text. This is a type of expository
nonfiction that helps readers do things and make
decisions. We also read examples of text to determine
what point of view the texts were written in (first
person, second person, or third person).
The students will begin reading and responding to
their new literature books on Monday. They will
have homework every night to go along with their
reading. They can record the minutes they read at
home on their reading calendars.

We were busy working on our fractions unit in
math. We worked with adding and subtracting
fractions along with improper fractions and mixednumbers. The kids also continued to work on long
division problems. Please give your child a long
division problem or two to work out at home and see
how they are doing on this math concept. Some of the
students really seem to understand the process, while
others get stuck on some of the steps.
In science we continue to investigate electricity.
This week the students made a series circuit. They
are learning that things don’t always go as smoothly
as they think they will in the field of science, and that
they need to explore different options to solve
problems. They are really GROWING their brains!
FYI-The middle school will be having an
informational night for incoming 5th graders on the
evening of Monday, April 27 at 6:00. This will be
held in the middle school auditorium.
