Lesson 4.3
Graphing Horizontal & Vertical Lines
Mr. Beltz &
Mr. Sparks
Horizontal

Think Horizon…left & right.
Vertical

Think of Mr. Beltz’s Vertical Jump
in basketball. (Up & Down)
Linear equations Review

All linear equations can be
written in the form:
Ax + By = C
Horizontal Lines
Ax + By = C
When A = 0
The equation reduces to By = C
This results in a HORIZONTAL LINE
(Example 1)
Vertical Lines
Ax + By = C
When B = 0
The equation reduces to Ax = C
This results in a VERTICAL LINE
(Example 2)
Summary


If y = b Horizontal Line
If x = a Vertical Line
Writing an Equation of a line.


The graph is a vertical line. The xcoordinate is always -2.
The equation of the line is x= -2
(Example 3a)
Write an Equation of a line.


The graph is a horizontal line. The ycoordinate is always 4.
The equation of the line is y=4.
(Example 3b)
