Ratio
•
A ratio is a comparison of two numbers
by division. Each number in a ratio is
called a term.
• There are three ways to write ratios.
Ex: 6 cups parts mix to 2 cups pretzels
1. 6 to 2 (words)
2. 6:2 (With a symbol)
3. 6/2 (As a fraction)
Example 1: 3 Ways to
Write a Ratio
PARTY MIX
Makes 6 Cups
• 4 cups cereal
• 2 cups pretzels
• 3 tbsp
Worcestershire Sauce
Use the party mix recipe at

Equal Ratios
• Two ratios that name the same
number are equal ratios. You can find
equal ratios by multiplying or dividing
each term of a ratio by the same
nonzero number

Ratios in Simplest Form
12 baseballs and 8 baseball bats
There are 8 bats and 12 balls, so the
ratio of bats to balls is 8 to 12.
Divide by 4
8/12 = 2/3
Example 3: Ratios in
Simplest Form
Write each ratio in simplest form.
