Let’s look at an example: Is 24 a composite number?
24 = 1 x 24
24 = 2 x 12
24 is a composite number.
24 = 3 x 8
The factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24.
24 = 4 x 6
24 has more than 2 factors!

• What is a prime number?
–It’s a number with EXACTLY 2 factors.
–A number that can only be divided evenly by itself
and one.
Let’s look at an example: Is 5 a prime number?
5=5x1
5 is a prime number.
The factors of 5 are 1 and 5
