The Moral of the Story
• A place-value chart can help you read and
understand very large and very small numbers.
Independent Practice
• On your place value chart, create a challenging
number.
• On the L side of your notebook, find the standard,
short word, and expanded forms of your number.
• Trade place value charts with a table partner (do not
give them the answer in your notebook).
• Partners, use the clue from your partner to identify
the standard, short word, and expanded forms of
his/her number.
• Return to the author, so he/she may check if it is
correct.
