Sequence Writing: Students will
practice sequence writing by writing the steps
that Wilbur uses to spin a web. Students will
begin with the topic sentence: “Wilbur
decided to try to spin a web one
day in the barn.”

Fraction – a symbol, such as ½ or 2/3, that names equal parts of a
whole ( a part of something)
Numerator – tells how many equal parts are described. It is the
number on top. UP
Denominator – tells the total number of equal parts. It is the number
on bottom. DOWN
Unit fraction- a fraction with 1 as its numerator 1/3, 1/5, etc…. (unit
means 1)
Benchmark fraction – commonly used fractions ¼,1/3, ½,2/3

Halves – 2 equal parts

Fifths – 5 equal parts

Eighths – 8 equal parts

Fact family – a group of related facts using the same numbers
Difference - the answer when subtracting two numbers
Equation - a number sentence that uses an equal sign to show
that the value to its left is the same as the value to its right
Example: 20+9=29
15 = (20+5)-10 18 = 11 + n
Multiplication – an operation that gives the total number
when you join equal groups
Factors – the numbers that are being multiplied 8 X 3 = 24
Product – the answer to a multiplication problem
8 X 5 = 45
Inverse – the opposite operation
Example: addition is the inverse of subtraction/multiplication is the inverse of division
20. Mixed number – numbers that have a whole number part and a fraction part
