Separable and inseparable
prefix verbs (Präteritum)
• In the Präteritum, just like the Präsens, some prefixes
are always attached to the verb, and others can be
separated from it. When using a separable prefix verb in
the Präteritum, move the prefix to the end of the sentence
or clause.

Separable and inseparable
prefix verbs (Präteritum)
• You learned in 2B.2 that verbs with prefixes can be either
strong, weak, or mixed. The Präteritum of a verb with a
prefix is the same as the Präteritum of its base verb, but
with the prefix added to the front of the conjugated verb, if it
is inseparable, or to the end of the clause, if it is separable.
