A noun is a person, place, thing or idea.
An adjective describes a noun. It tells how many, which one
and what kind.
A pronoun takes the place of a noun.
A verb shows action or state of being.
An adverb describes verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. An
adverb answers how, when, where, why and under what
condition.
Conjunctions “hook” together words, phrases and/or clauses.
Prepositions are words that relate its object (the noun or
pronoun) to another word in the sentence.
Interjections are words that show emotion; an exclamation
Examples:
Noun: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
Verb: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
Pronoun: She swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
Adjective: The brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
Adverb: The very brave woman swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
Conjunction: There were spectators and supporters who greeted the woman when she
arrived at Key West.
Preposition: The woman survived through the difficult obstacles while swimming from
Cuba to Florida.
Interjection: Wow! Diana Nyad, 64, became the first person to swim from Cuba to
Florida.
