• Can anybody remember what the infinitive of a
verb is?
Yes it is the form of the verb you find in a
dictionary, it has no meaning of time or subject.
• How do we recognise an infinitive in English?
The verb has TO in front of it.
• What are the equivalent of TO in French?
The verbs end in –ER, -RE, -IR.
• When we use a verb in a sentence in English and it
has a subject, do we keep TO?
No, we get rid of it.
• What do you think we are going to do to French
verbs when we want to use them with a subject?
Yes, we will have to get rid of the –ER, -RE and IR
• The verbs we have found in the sentences earlier
are all –ER verbs.

• As you can see, in the infinitive the verbs have

• Let’s remind ourselves that all verbs belonging to

need to do?
