SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Indra Tj - D 2422
We use the Simple Past Tense to talk about actions or situations in the
past. Very often the Simple Past ends in - ed.
• e.g.
1. I enjoyed the party very much last night.
2. Mr. Edward died ten years ago.
3. When I lived in Manchester, I worked in a
bank.
Indra Tj - D 2422
But many important verbs are irregular. This means that the Past
simple does not end in -ed
.
• e.g.
1. We all left the party at 11 o’clock.
2. Yesterday I went to London to see a
friend of mine.
Indra Tj - D 2422
In the Simple Past Tense we use did/didn’t + the infinitive for questions
and negatives sentences
• e.g.
1. Did you have enough time to write the
letter last weekend, Yudi?
2. I didn’t have much money to buy
anything to eat today.

in the middle of doing something at a certain time.
The action or situation had already started before this time but hadn’t
finished

1.Tom burn his hand when he was cooking the
dinner.
