Why sing?
• Music Powers the Brain- singing helps children
recognizes patterns and later helps with problem solving

emotion
• Music Comforts Us- Repeating songs gives children
security and creates memories. All human beings find
comfort in the familiar.

Music Room “Word Wall”
• Why a word wall in the music room?
• Vocabulary, importance of the text,
reference for words the students don’t
see/hear very often, a visual reminder of
how many new words they have learned
• K-4 with the word, realistic picture
• Don’t hang until all students have been
introduced to the word.

Adjectives- “The Adjective Song”

An adjective can tell us, more than a noun.
Color, shape and size,
Its texture or its sound.
For interesting writing, the adjective’s your friend,
Describe, describe, describe, from beginning to the
end.
Verbs- “The Verb Song”

A verb can make your body move, hurrah, hurrah!
It tells what boys and girls can do, hurrah, hurrah!
We jump, we spin, we roll, we fall,
It’s action verbs that move us all.
If you need an action, verbs, are the words,
Have you heard?
Adverbs- “The Adverb Song”

Adverbs add to a verb,
Lots of times they’re “L-Y” words,
They explain how, where, or when,
Verbs are lonely without them.

How- quickly, lazily, backwards, loudly, slowly

Sports/ Categories/ Movement- “Sports Rap”
(Put various sports on cards to flip through as you keep the beat. March
in place and play a drum as you keep the beat. On the last sport all
students demonstrate that sport i.e. football- pass the ball, soccer-hit
the ball off your head. Shuffle cards and play again.)
Sports, sports, how will I choose?
Keeping fit, I cannot lose!
