Determining Conjugation
• To determine the conjugation of a verb,
you look at the 2nd principal part (infinitive)

If it ends in –are = 1st conjugation
If it ends in –ēre = 2nd conjugation
If it ends in –ere = 3rd conjugation
If it ends in –ire = 4th conjugation
How to Conjugate Imperfect
• The first thing that you need are principal parts
• Like: amō, amāre, amavī, amatus
• Then you need some endings

• To form these
– Go to the 2nd principal part (amare)
– Cut off the “re” at the end
– What’s left is called the stem (ama)
– Slap on the endings
